Mushroom Wars, a RTS game developed by Creat Studios, hits the PSN tomorrow with a price tag of ten dollars. Scott’s post on the PlayStation blog isn’t exactly selling me on the game:
…accessible RTS, with a quaint, anime-inspired visual style…
…send your cute armies into battle
…in the mood for a quick, five-minute RTS battle to jump-start your morning
I usually jump-start my morning with a borax-enema, so it’s going to be tough to break that pattern. With Mushroom Wars, we seem to have an adorable RTS game that has short play sessions and simple gameplay. It’s the Guess Who of PSN games! I’m wary of RTS games on consoles because they are usually too watered down to provide a fulfilling experience. I’m more wary of RTS games on consoles that advertise their “accessibility.” If anyone can play this game, how much strategy is involved? I did not graduate from college to fight children. ..That’s how I got in to college.
But the biggest concern I have about Mushroom Wars is that they are trying to sell it for ten dollars. Critter Crunch, a well-defined game with competitive depth and challenging but rewarding levels, is also adorable and is selling for seven dollars on the PlayStation Store. What makes Mushroom Wars worth that extra three dollars? Are some of the mushrooms naked?
Let’s hope they release a demo along with the game tomorrow.
