If you Throw your DS Through a Wall, It Might Break

by Bryan Sharp on November 4, 2009

The French gaming magazine Amusement is supposedly a fine publication. Since I don’t know how to speak or read French, I can only assume that the stories and interviews are of the highest quality. I enjoy the magazine much like a baby enjoys fumbling around with a picture book.

A section in the latest issue of Amusement includes images of people throwing electronics through walls. The title of the section is “Overheating,” so I’m guessing the article accompanying the pictures was about people getting so mad at electronics that they hurl them across rooms. I wire-tied my PlayStation 3 to a couple of free-weights to prevent a similar situation arising at home. Every time I get angry enough to throw my PS3, I just glance at the weights to immediately lose all motivation.

That just looks exhausting.

That just looks exhausting.

I know that scene is a little hard for some people to stomach, but maybe “overheating” means that the DS got so hot it burnt the person using it, and the person had no choice but to throw it through a wall in a hurt, frightened rage. Actually, I wish I knew when these photos were taken because I bet it was right around the time Nintendo announced the DSi XL.

The durability of the DS Lite isn’t very impressive. I’ve been thrown through walls, and nothing ever came unhinged except for my jaw that ONE time.

Also, the military might want to look into the Nintendo DS as an expensive type of specialized munition. Look how DS Lite expanded after hitting the target, causing massive damage. I could see the DS Lite used in undercover operations where operatives can’t appear armed:

Enemy: “Halt! What are you doing over here?”

Spy: “Huh, haha, oh, sorry. I was playing my Nintendo DS Lite and didn’t even realize I had wandered on to some kind of maximum-security base. My bad.”

Enemy: “Nintendo DS Lite, huh?  … How far did you get in Trauma Center?”

Spy: “GET HIM, PIKACHU” *BAM*

The above was a mostly believable situation, but it was dramatized slightly for the Internet audience. I doubt the spy would yell “GET HIM, PIKACHU” before launching the DS Lite at the enemy in a real battle situation; he’d probably whisper it instead to avoid alerting the other guards.
