In an interview with Gizmodo, Microsoft’s CEO Steve Ballmer said something interesting about Blu-ray for the Xbox 360:
Well I don’t know if we need to put Blu-ray in there—you’ll be able to get Blu-ray drives as accessories.
It’s one in the morning here on the east coast, but I’m sure this news caused several Sony fanboys to spring awake in bed and run downstairs to beat their PlayStations for being such dirty whores.
Microsoft seems to be big on streaming HD content to the Xbox 360, so it will be interesting to see how high these add-on Blu-ray drives are on Microsoft’s list of priorities. I wonder if they can use the casing from the leftover external HD-DVD enclosures and swap the drives out. How easy is it to disassemble the HD-DVD add-on player? Microsoft could sell barebone Blu-ray drives and provide instructions for how to remove the HD-DVD drive and bury it in the backyard.
I can’t wait to see the comments from the gaming community on this one.
